Garden In Black
Theodore Kolsouzoglous project GIB was formed in Athens, Greece during 2000 and after several demo CDs and a handful of live dates, Dead Scarlet Records finally release his self-titled debut album. Largely based around driving danceable rhythms and digitised vocals, Kolsouzoglous music has a slightly retro analogue feel with synthetic spoken word lyrics about love, fear, loss and pain. Far from being melancholic however, his music ranges from gothic electro-pop to dark dance, the robotic voice lending an oddly detached emotion to the mood. On the lighter, poppier side of things are the catchy 80s influenced 25th of September and The Haunted Song. Leaning more towards dark cinematic electronica are Dark Current Noise and In Silence while Help Me!! and Your Hell head toward dark dance. Also included on the CD are remixes of the tracks Help Me!! and Your Hell. The 1st augments the atmosphere with a womans screams adding a harder electronic edge while the latter gives the original new energy by speeding it up to a vibrating metallic throb. There is also a 12th unlisted track that is based around dubby beats, acoustic guitar and a womans ecstatic groans that are somewhat detached from the theme of the main album and probably why it is included as a bonus track.
