Kan Kan
a letter from Patrick
"Hello and thank you for listening to Kan Kan. Looking back now, I can see there were many stages in our brief life as a band and I have tried to show this in this selection of our material. From our first single Film Noir, which was recorded in a local hall live (!). ~ to our EP Changing Trains (tracks 2 -5) which first brought us attention particularly from the always missed John Peel.Tracks 6 - 9 are from our second EP The Informer. Tracks 10 and 11are when we played live and I have included them because It shows a different side to the songwriting.
I have also included Déjà Vu, (track 12) a song only ever heard once on the John Peel Show. ~this is the original recording from our John Peel Session. Finally, we go back to the beginning with the Watchmaker, which was the B Side of Film Noir but here I have taken the liberty of doing some contemporary re-edits! And finally track 14, was included onthe compilation album of London Bands called East of Croydon and was one of our darkest songs
All our material here , (with the exception of Film Noir) was recorded at RME Studios with the very wonderful Andy. I always tried to create a ‘complete world on each track’ so that the listener could get lost in it.
It was a very exciting time to be playing live and making music and I was very fortunate to have the most original and talented musicians in the band. I hope you can hear the enthusiasm and commitment and above all the atmosphere we tried to produce on the recordings. Enjoy!"
